A small moment of encouragement from God

I remembered this morning a time when I rode my bike out to the garbage dump one spring day.
Amidst the garbage, the mud, and the rats, there were places where wildflowers bloomed. I was one of the only people who noticed them.
The garbage truck came, dumped its load into one of the huge pits, and drove off. Small pickup trucks came. The men threw out whatever they had and left.
No one noticed me or the flowers.
They were beautiful. My neighbors had well-tended gardens, but here amidst the rotten smells, the smoke (there was open burning then), and everything that people discarded, small flowers bloomed.
As a little boy, I thought, my life is like these flowers in the garbage dump. I’m starting to blossom, but only God can see it. I can glorify God by becoming something that no one ever thought was possible.
I can be a small flower in the garbage dump.
